What is your artist name?

My name is Corey Lawrence Banks so never get that part twisted (lol) but in music, call me Corey Drumz ‘cuz I beat mics.

What kind of music do you make?

I’m a pure hip-hop artist. My music is my journal, my personal story of life and everything that is in it. It’s my way of communicating through the universe. It’s my connection to the ancestors, the higher levels of existence. My music is my soul.

How old are you and when did you start creating music?

I’m the youngest son of 2 musicians so I started out in music at birth, but at the young age of 11, I became the male soloist singing for my Junior High School chorus in Hollis Queens, NY and honestly, the first time I stood in front of a large audience, I was hooked. Growing up, I was influenced heavily by local legends, Run DMC & LL Cool J, artists by the name of Romeo the Lover, Spank G, Mikey D, among others. Once I entered High School, I decided to develop my skills as a writer and hip-hop became my passion. I’m a product of the Mr. Magic’s Rap Attack era, being one of those kids that religiously recorded pause tapes every Friday & Saturday. My moms passed when I was 14, so my grandmother moved into our house with me and my pops lived in Flatbush Brooklyn, so I was also heavily influenced by my environment, coming up in NYC during the crime infested era of the 80’s & 90’s. My music is a reflection of my life, telling my story as I live it. I express that in everything I do, so I tell my story to give both the positive and negative aspects, showing a purpose, giving those who listen to my music a true message through the reality of the life I live, have lived.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career?

My goal as a musician is to enlighten my listeners with real life truths, knowledge and information that will not only entertain, but allow them to possibly see things in their own lives more clearly, relating to them through my experiences in a pursuit of truth outside of traditional learning by simply looking for it in everything.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music?

The main thing I want the reader to know about me and my music is that I am not a “fad” artist, making music for possible fame fortune. I make music to enrich spirits and to show true skill as a lyricist without over thinking technicalities. I just rhyme the way I rhyme. Know that when you listen to Corey Drumz music, you are witnessing my true life experiences and not fabricated experiences and material posessions invented to influence my listeners into believing falsehoods of grandeur. I am Corey Drumz and my life is 4real just like those I make my music for.
