Bessie Regina Norris, better known by her stagenameBetty Wright, was an American soul and R&B singer, songwriter and background vocalist, who rose to fame in the 1970s with hits such as "Clean Up Woman" and "Tonight is the Night". She ls also prominent in regard tothe use of whistle register.
Betty made a bold move in the '80s, launching her own independent label ... it had not been done before by a female artist. That's when she recorded "No Pain (No Gain)." Ever heard that phrase? Latershe recorded "Mother Wit," and it went gold -- the first time an African-American female singer went gold on her own record label.
